We need to remember that not everything that makes it into the news is important and not everything that is important makes it into the news. We have this trusting and an obidence sense that what is in the news must be important. We need to step back and realize that there are many many important things out there that don't make it into the headlines for all sorts of reasons.
We have this vision that everything that are important happened in the last 24 hours but there is enormous amount of knowledge, wisdom, example from way back. We are such a future centric society that we have to remind ourselves of the importance of looking back for mining unfamiliar areas in order to keep our lives, societies intact. We need people borrowing from unfamiliar areas but news is a monoculture despite the unbelievable proliferation of news outlets.
