Wisdom Of The Week

"We should all live like dogs." "They're such better beings than us." I love these quotations, but it raises another issue: the use of dogs in biomedical research. If you think dogs are better beings than we are, is it worth trading the life of a dog (actually thousands of dogs) to have the life of humans with a certain disease or disorder extended a few years?

Here is a good example of how dogs are typically used in biomedical research. Most people are shocked to learn that this kind of thing is still going on. And beagles, in fact, are the most commonly used dog in experimentation because they are so trusting and forgiving.
